Sajid: "If we are to deploy our resources, they should be dedicated to vital issues."

By حزب الاتحاد الدستوريJun 10, 20211 min read

During a meeting held at Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fez, Mr. Mohamed Sajid, Secretary General of the Constitutional Union, emphasized that the recommendations of the New Development Model Commission align with citizen aspirations. He highlighted that they accurately diagnose existing deficiencies across multiple sectors, including health, education, and the public sector, which requires reform—demands that the party has strongly advocated for years. He added that Morocco faces critical challenges, particularly in the post-Covid-19 era, focusing his remarks on public enterprises operating under flawed management frameworks. He called for these entities to achieve financial balance, citing the National Railways Office (ONCF) as an example of an institution registering astronomical deficits. He questioned whether such deficits should be covered by the state budget or if public funds should instead be prioritized for social sectors and vital causes, stressing that public entities must resolve their financial issues without relying on government budgets.

Mr. Sajid noted that the ONCF possesses a massive real estate portfolio spanning hundreds of hectares that remains unexploited and absent from the organization's financial accounts. Because these assets are not accounted for, they cannot be utilized. Consequently, he advocated for a comprehensive overhaul of how public institutions are managed—either by capitalizing on their existing real estate assets or seeking alternative financing mechanisms to relieve the strain on the national budget, concluding: "If we are to deploy our resources, they should be dedicated to vital issues."

On September 7 in Casablanca, the Constitutional Union (UC) launched its platform for the 2026 legislative elections, prioritizing job creation, purchasing power, and productive growth under the commitment "A Productive Economy, More Job Opportunities, and Stronger Purchasing Power." Key Challenges Addressed: Secretary-General Mohamed Joudar highlighted that ~2.9 million Moroccan youth are currently not in employment, education, or training (NEETs), alongside inflation pressures and market intermediaries driving up living costs. Core Proposals: Align vocational training with market demands and support first-job access for youth. Improve the business climate, expand financing for SMEs/startups, and combat monopolies and rent-seeking. Strengthen market competition and supply chain transparency to curb inflation rather than relying solely on temporary price fixes. Combine private initiative with strategic state oversight to ensure growth benefits all social classes and regions.
