Mr. El Zemmouri Retains Presidency of Sahel Chamali Commune Under Constitutional Union Banner

By حزب الاتحاد الدستوريJan 15, 20251 min read

Mr. Mohamed Akhrif of the Constitutional Union (UC) party was elected this morning as the new president of the Sahel Chamali communal council, located in the Tangier-Assilah prefecture. He succeeds former president Abdelhamid El Kennouni, who was removed following a ruling by the Tangier Administrative Court.

A mobilization effort led by Mr. Mohamed El Zemmouri, regional coordinator of the Constitutional Union in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, successfully rallied local council members to maintain the commune's leadership under the UC banner, securing the required majority for Mr. Akhrif.

The newly elected executive bureau is structured as follows:

  • President: Mohamed Akhrif (Constitutional Union - UC)

  • 1st Vice-President: Noureddine El Sherif (National Rally of Independents - RNI)

  • 2nd Vice-President: Adel El Baqali (National Rally of Independents - RNI)

  • 3rd Vice-President: Abdelaziz El Cherib (Constitutional Union - UC)

  • 4th Vice-President: Yousra El Louah (National Rally of Independents - RNI)

The election follows Decision No. 06 issued on January 3, 2025, by the Wali of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region and Governor of Tangier-Assilah Prefecture, opening nominations for the council presidency in accordance with Organic Law No. 113.14 on Communes and executing the judicial ruling regarding the former president's dismissal.

The Constitutional Union places employment and purchasing power at the heart of its electoral platform.

On September 7 in Casablanca, the Constitutional Union (UC) launched its platform for the 2026 legislative elections, prioritizing job creation, purchasing power, and productive growth under the commitment "A Productive Economy, More Job Opportunities, and Stronger Purchasing Power." Key Challenges Addressed: Secretary-General Mohamed Joudar highlighted that ~2.9 million Moroccan youth are currently not in employment, education, or training (NEETs), alongside inflation pressures and market intermediaries driving up living costs. Core Proposals: Align vocational training with market demands and support first-job access for youth. Improve the business climate, expand financing for SMEs/startups, and combat monopolies and rent-seeking. Strengthen market competition and supply chain transparency to curb inflation rather than relying solely on temporary price fixes. Combine private initiative with strategic state oversight to ensure growth benefits all social classes and regions.
