The heads of the majority groups in the House of Councillors held a meeting to evaluate parliamentary performance, praising the majority's harmony and the government's efforts amid global economic and climatic challenges. The session concluded with renewed comprehensive support for implementing the government program and the election of Mohamed Bakouri as coordinator for the majority groups.
Karim Chahid, Head of the Constitutional Democratic Social group in the House of Councillors, called on the Minister of Equipment and Water to generalize protective barriers along the motorway network to reduce accidents and protect users. He also highlighted the negative impact of continuous maintenance works on traffic flow across key routes (such as Rabat-Fes and Casablanca-Marrakech), urging the relocation of toll stations to highway exits to avoid unnecessary stops and ensure high-quality service.
The Bureau of the House of Representatives decided to establish a joint thematic committee between both houses of parliament to reassess relations with the European Parliament, following false allegations and attacks from certain parties within it. The decision was made during a meeting attended by parliamentary group heads, alongside plans for an upcoming study and media session.
A significant Moroccan parliamentary delegation, including Councillor Abdelkarim Chahid, Head of the Constitutional Democratic Social group, participated in the 17th session of the PUIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) in Algiers (January 26-30, 2023). Held under the theme "The Islamic World and the Challenges of Modernization and Development," the session addressed major political, economic, and security challenges facing the Islamic nation, as well as the Palestinian cause, featuring standing committee meetings and the renewal of the organization's structures.
The House of Councillors unanimously adopted Bill No. 41.21 amending the law on the Competition Council. Implementing Royal Directives to enhance the Council's independence and promote good governance, the amendments clarify the prerogatives of its President and decision-making bodies, enforce strict confidentiality of deliberations under threat of criminal liability, regulate conflicts of interest, and establish a dedicated body of rapporteurs along with penalty guidelines.
Mohamed Sajid and Abdessamad Archane chaired a consultative meeting with the joint "Constitutional Democratic and Social" parliamentary group to congratulate MPs and emphasize collaborative action. The meeting concluded with the appointment of Chaoui Belassal as the head of the joint parliamentary group.
In the House of Councillors, Constitutional Democratic and Social Group MP Mohamed Adal urged Minister Nabil Benabdellah to amend Urban Planning Law 6612 due to implementation difficulties that burden local elected officials, calling for provisions adapted to marginalized regions. The Minister acknowledged the importance of aligning urban planning with regional challenges, highlighting the framework provided by regional planning laws.
