The Commander of the Faithful, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, addressed a Royal Message to the Head of Government concerning the revision of the Family Code (Moudawana).
This Royal Message comes in implementation of the Royal decision announced by His Majesty in the 2022 Throne Speech, and embodies the benevolent care that He, may God glorify Him, constantly devotes to advancing women's issues and the family in general.
Alongside instructing the Head of Government through this message, His Majesty entrusted the practical supervision of preparing this major reform, jointly and collectively, to the Ministryyty of Justice, the Supreme Council of the Judicial Power, and the Presidency of the Public Prosecution, given the centrality of the legal and judicial dimensions of this issue.
His Majesty also called upon the aforementioned institutions to closely involve other bodies directly concerned with this issue, foremost among them the Supreme Scientific Council, the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH), and the governmental authority in charge of solidarity, social inclusion, and the family, while also opening up to civil society organizations and actors, researchers, and specialists.
The High Royal Instructions dictate that the proposals for amendments resulting from these extensive participatory consultations be submitted for the High Consideration of His Majesty the King, the Commander of the Faithful and the guarantor of citizens' rights and freedoms, within a maximum period of six months, prior to the government drafting a bill in this regard and submitting it to Parliament for approval.
