The Constitutional Gathering group sounds the alarm and warns of the depletion of the "security stock" of medicines and medical supplies.

By حزب الاتحاد الدستوريJun 14, 20171 min read

Abbas El Maghari, Member of Parliament for the Constitutional Gathering group, sounded the alarm regarding the depletion of the reserve stock of certain medicines and medical supplies in public hospitals. During the oral questions session in the House of Representatives yesterday (Tuesday), he stressed that "some public hospitals are suffering from a depletion of the necessary medicines and medical supplies needed to perform surgical operations."

El Maghari stated that this situation "threatens the health of thousands of Moroccan citizens, especially those with chronic diseases," adding that the Ministry of Health is called upon to "urgently take measures to help confront this shortage." The MP for the Constitutional Gathering group attributed this situation to a series of reasons, most notably "the centralized management of medicine stocks," despite the new Constitution stipulating the implementation of advanced regionalization. He further added, "It is noticeable that the issue of medicine stocks is still managed centrally, and the time has come for this matter to be entrusted to the regional and provincial health directorates."

El Maghari also leveled harsh criticism at the Minister of Health, El Hossein El Ouardi, against the backdrop of the problems his sector is experiencing at the level of medical and nursing staff. He pointed out that most Moroccan hospitals are experiencing a massive shortage of human resources, including the Mohammed V Regional Hospital Center in Meknes, which suffers from an acute shortage of medical staff across various specialties.
