His Majesty King Mohammed VI—accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Prince Moulay Rachid—delivered a Royal Speech on Friday to members of Parliament on the occasion of the opening of the first session of the third legislative year of the eleventh legislative term.
In the speech, the Sovereign addressed the tragic Al-Haouz earthquake, expressing profound grief while praising the spontaneous solidarity and mobilization of the Moroccan people, civil society, the Royal Armed Forces, security services, and international partners. He emphasized that rebuilding and supporting affected families remains an absolute national priority.
Highlighting the enduring moral pillars of the Moroccan nation, the Sovereign underscored three foundational values:
Religious and spiritual values: Centered on Maliki Sunni Islam under the leadership of the Commander of the Faithful, promoting moderation, coexistence, and mutual respect.
National values: Anchored in the sacred bond of the Monarchy and the historic allegiance (Bay'ah) between the Throne and the people, alongside an unwavering commitment to national unity and territorial integrity.
Solidarity and social cohesion: Fostering mutual support, family cohesion, and social justice across generations and regions.
Turning to institutional reforms, His Majesty addressed the ongoing review of the Family Code (Moudawana), reiterating the vital role of the family as the cornerstone of society. He also announced the launch of the direct social support program starting at the end of the year to improve living standards, combat poverty, and assist vulnerable demographics, including families with school-aged children, newborns, individuals with disabilities, and low-income households supporting elderly members.
Finally, the King called upon Parliament to play an active role in embodying these authentic values, supporting major national reforms, and remaining vigilant in defending the supreme interests of the nation.
