Mohamed Sajid, Minister of Tourism, Air Transport, Handicrafts and Social Economy, stated that Fez, as the spiritual capital of the Kingdom, is a reservoir of creators and talents in the field of traditional crafts.
In a speech delivered on Friday in Fez during the opening of the first edition of the National Metals Exhibition, Sajid added that this event is, in fact, a living museum; visiting its pavilions and corridors offers a journey through the history of the Kingdom and its ancient civilization.
Sajid expressed his pride in witnessing the creations of Moroccan artisans who are keen on preserving and developing this legacy, passing it down from generation to generation, and safeguarding the traditional crafts that represent the richness of Moroccan heritage. He also highlighted the importance of this event, which sees the participation of various regions of the Kingdom, praising the boom experienced by the handicraft sector, particularly in the Fez-Meknes region, thanks to the combined efforts of various stakeholders and actors in the sector, which is reflected in the organization of numerous exhibitions and promotional events.
This exhibition continues until March 10 and is organized by the Chamber of Traditional Crafts of the Fez-Meknes region in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Air Transport, Handicrafts and Social Economy. It features the participation of more than 120 male and female exhibitors, including artisans, traditional craftsmen, small and medium craft enterprises, and professional cooperatives working in the metals sector, as well as specialized actors in the technical equipment of this sector.
The exhibition covers a total area of approximately 4,000 square meters and aims to contribute to the revitalization and valorization of traditional metal crafts by providing excellent public exposure to its professions. It seeks to breathe new dynamism into the marketing of its products while enabling visitors to view the creations of artisans representing the professions of silverware, copperware, artistic blacksmithing, and jewelry, as well as facilitating the exchange of expertise among craftsmen from various regions of the Kingdom. The exhibition, co-organized by the Fez-Meknes Regional Council and the Fez City Council, features several spaces, including areas dedicated to antiques and products of training institute graduates, a commercial pavilion for sales, another for designs and displays of artifacts, and a pavilion for technical equipment.
The edition includes seminars and roundtables on the metals sector, related fields, and ways to elevate it, moderated by researchers and experts in the field. It also features training sessions for artisans to strengthen their capacities and knowledge, alongside honoring active figures in the traditional crafts sector.
