His Majesty King Mohammed VI addressed a message to the participants of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, held in Marrakech from October 9 to 15.
In the Royal Message—read by Royal Advisor Omar Kabbaj—His Majesty welcomed delegates to Morocco, highlighting the symbolic significance of hosting the meetings in Marrakech following the tragic Al-Haouz earthquake and expressing deep gratitude for international solidarity. The Sovereign emphasized that current geopolitical, economic, and environmental challenges necessitate a renewed commitment to multilateralism, international cooperation, and global solidarity.
Key themes of the Royal Message include:
Reform of Global Financial and Multilateral Systems: Advocating for inclusive governance, fair debt-relief frameworks, and reformed international financial institutions that accommodate the interests of all nations.
Africa's Strategic Role: Urging greater global representation and tailored support for African nations, which bear the brunt of climate change despite contributing the least to global emissions, while championing South-South cooperation.
Morocco's Development Model: Highlighting the country's macroeconomic stability, resilience against external shocks, and prioritization of human development, notably through the rollout of the sweeping universal social protection program.
Finally, the King called for frank and constructive dialogue among global leaders to bridge economic divides, promote peace, and ensure a prosperous shared future for coming generations.
