Ziani calls for curbing illegal immigration by providing employment for youth.

Message of the Nation

Khadija Ziani, a member of the Constitutional Union group, criticized the persistence of illegal immigration due to widespread unemployment among youth, calling on the government to take "practical measures to curb this phenomenon," which she described as "painful" and "very dangerous, especially after the proliferation of migration via fast inflatable boats in northern Morocco."

During the oral questions session in the House of Representatives yesterday (Monday), Ziani stated that "illegal migration from the northern shores towards the other side via so-called death boats has witnessed a noticeable increase during the recent period, which explains the scale of difficult economic conditions experienced by vulnerable groups and the spread of unemployment among young people."

Ziani linked the phenomenon of illegal migration to the spread of unemployment, "which requires providing job opportunities to preserve the dignity of Moroccan youth," according to her statement. In this regard, she recalled statistics from the High Commission for Planning (HCP) indicating that "unemployment among youth is rampant at a rate exceeding 10 percent, and 22 percent among university graduates."

The MP described the reality of unemployment ravaging youth as "painful," adding, "We all remember the 'Phantom' [speedboat] phenomenon witnessed on the northern beaches and how all the young people and women rushed to wait for a dream that will not come true. Looking at the Tangier-Medina port highlights the magnitude of the phenomenon, as its surroundings witness the presence of dozens of children and youth wishing to leave Morocco through illegal means."
