Under the chairmanship of Habib El Malki, Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Thematic Working Group on Parity and Equality held a meeting yesterday, Wednesday, to hand over duties to the Constitutional Union group representative, MP Khadija Ziani, from the outgoing group president, Thouraya Faraj, a member of the Authenticity and Modernity group.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Speaker of the House of Representatives praised the efforts exerted by the female members of the thematic group and their dedication to providing the necessary conditions for the success of this experience despite various difficulties and obstacles in different fields, noting that Moroccan society bears witness to the pioneering experience of the committee, which contributes to enriching the distinction of the Moroccan parliamentary experience.
After affirming that Morocco's distinction is a tangible reality, El Malki stated, "What makes us most proud is that women's issues are among the matters that unite all components of the House of Representatives within a framework of consensus and great maturity."
El Malki called upon the female members of the thematic group to work with persistence and strong, solid will to ensure the success of this societal experiment in all its social, intellectual, and cultural dimensions, and to work on regularly briefing the House's bodies on all the committee's activities and communicating with them constantly, "since women's issues are urgent," the Speaker of the House said.
The speaker emphasized the need to consider drafting a proposal to amend the House's internal regulations with the aim of transforming the thematic committee into a permanent committee like other parliamentary committees, adding that "this calls for conducting legal consultations, interpretations, and innovations regarding this proposal."
El Malki, who highlighted the importance of conducting an inventory of all laws approved by the House of Representatives concerning women to highlight their shortcomings, stressed that "women's issues represent a societal battle requiring strong endurance, as fruits only appear in the long term."
For her part, Khadija Ziani, the new president of the thematic group appointed as the successor to Thouraya Faraj as part of the rotation of the presidency, praised the continuous support provided by the Speaker of the House of Representatives to the work of the thematic group.
The meeting featured a review of the most important achievements of the thematic group over the past six months, as well as the action plan for the upcoming phase.
It is worth noting that the Thematic Working Group on Parity and Equality is tasked with conducting studies, submitting proposals and recommendations to activate the legislative initiative of the House members, and developing the performance of the House and its bodies in the fields of monitoring government work and evaluating public policies regarding parity, equality, and the integration of the gender approach.
